The Christmas Market in Frankfurt has the traditions of over 600 years. It is one of the Germany´s oldest and most popular Christmas markets in Europe. A sign of the popularity of Frankfurt Christmas Market is, that there are a smaller sibling version in some cities of Great Britain (Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Edinburgh), which has undoubtedly partly influenced on the great popularity of the market. It is easy to get to the Frankfurt Christmas Market, because the largest airport of Germany is located only 15 minutes from there, and there are lots of luxury and inexpensive hotels in the city.
There are lots of irresistible temptations in the area. Baked apples, roasted nuts, gingerbreads and mulled wine are just waiting for to get eaten and drunk. A contrast to them is the ever-present Frankfurt skyline in the background. An unforgettable experience is guaranteed by the historical Römerberg market place, St Paul´s church and the gigantic Christmas tree.
The event is held on the Römerberg Square, Paulsplatz and Mainkai quay. Arts, crafts and seasonal food and drink are offered in 200 stalls. The area around the 30-metre high Christmas tree is full of entertainment: for example, concerts and trumpet fanfares from the balcony of St. Nicholas´s Church. For many Germans, the most glorious season starts in November, because then the Christmas Markets begin. It is a time for tranquilization, which is filled with candle light and the smell of cookies. There are frost flowers in windows and it is cold (even though the climate of the Central Europe is warmer than, for example, in Finland). Many people enjoy of romantic nights in the glow of log-fire. For example, gingerbreads, cinnamon stars, mulled wine and hot orange sauce are essential, and there are a lot of Christmas Markets.
