Hamburg: Historical Christmas Market in Rauthausmarkt Square (Historischer Weihnachtsmarkt auf dem Rathausmarkt)
The historical Christmas Market in Rathausmarkt Square has been held annually already for 12 years. It is organized by Circus Roncalli. In 2010, the market was awarded with the notable economics prize of the German trade organization (Handelsverband Deutschland, HDE), Store of the Year. The prize was given for a market event instead of private trader for the first time. In the stalls and pavilions erased for the event visit annually over 2 million guests. This means, this such a young event has become as popular as the large and traditional Christmas markets in Germany. The event has often been praised as the most beautiful Christmas market in Hamburg and North Germany. The fascinating market architecture designed by the director of the circus, Bernhard Paul, makes the Hamburger Christmas Market different from the pre-Christmas events of other cities in Germany. There are also rarities from the collections of Paul, such as historical market organ, a stall from the turn of the century, Wiener Caféhaus built in the Art Nouveau style, old-time carousel from the 1920s and complicated decorations. The Historical Christmas Market is a journey into the days of childhood and the miracle of Christmas. It smells of baked almonds, local Hamburger Schmalzgebäck doughnuts, gingerbreads, nuts, marzipan and mulled wine.

Saksalaiset joulumarkkinat
For many Germans, the most glorious season starts in November, because then the Christmas Markets begin. It is a time for tranquilization, which is filled with candle light and the smell of cookies. There are frost flowers in windows and it is cold (even though the climate of the Central Europe is warmer than, for example, in Finland). Many people enjoy of romantic nights in the glow of log-fire. For example, gingerbreads, cinnamon stars, mulled wine and hot orange sauce are essential, and there are a lot of Christmas Markets. The markets are most often visited with family, friends or colleagues. Single persons can even find a partner for themselves from the markets. We introduce you some Christmas Markets worth of visiting.
